Neighborhood

Morningside Heights

Taking its name from the 30-acre Morningside Park, Morningside Heights is home to a diverse array of cultural and academic landmarks, including the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, and Central Park at its southern border. Columbia University, Barnard College and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America make up what is referred to as the neighborhood’s “Academic Acropolis.” The Studio Museum of Harlem and the Sugar Hill Gallery serve as the backbone of a vibrant art scene, and many clubs provide residents venues for listening to live music seven nights a week. An extension of the Upper West Side and Harlem, Morningside Heights architecturally and culturally blends two vibrant neighborhoods.
